Teen Group
Co-facilitators
We
need your help. Volunteers have the opportunity to co-facilitate a
group working with teens to help break the ongoing negative cycles
of homelessness, truancy, chemical abuse, and homelessness. Volunteers
would build strong ongoing relationships with these teens to support
and promote positive change in their lives. The success of this
position requires weekly consistency.
Ages:
21 or older, Male

Length of Commitment: One year preferred, but
flexible

Qualifications (special skills, interests or
experience): Sensitivity to diverse cultures, experience working with
teens preferred, passion for working with at-risk teens, responsive to
direction and feedback from supervisor, need to be chemical free, legal

Administrative
Special Event Assistant
(Interns/Volunteers)
We need someone who can assist our
Director of Special Events. Duties
include but are not limited to, database
management, mailings, help coordinate
our special events in July and October,
write up auction items, make follow-up calls, help bundle and package
auction items, attend
meetings (if possible), work the events, and other general office duties. This person will also need to have
Internet skills to do research, mail merging in Word a plus. Training provided.

Preferred
Qualifications (special skills, interests or
experience): Proficient in 2003 Microsoft Word & Excel, able to
construct letters, envelopes, labels and mail merge; good phone skills,
well organized, can multi-task, can work independently, dependable and needs transportation.
Training will be provided on database.

Agency
Custodian Helper
We need someone who can help us
keep our agency looking great. Duties include but are not limited to
vacuuming, empty trash, mopping floors, cleaning windows, picking up
trash around the grounds, etc.
Ages:
Juniors in High School through Senior Citizens
Hours: 8:00 am-2:00pm
- Monday-Friday - schedule is flexible (please call for details)
Length of Commitment: Flexible but dedicated

experience): Sensitivity to diverse cultures, some custodial experience helpful,
some heavy lifting maybe required, responsive to
direction and feedback from supervisors and need transportation.

Handyman Volunteers Needed
Perspectives is seeking a person or team of volunteers to work with
our Facilities Manager to help provide light maintenance on our
Supportive Housing apartment buildings. In this position, Volunteers
have the opportunity to work on light construction projects, therefore,
knowledge and interest in repair services is helpful. Volunteers must
have the ability to lift 50 lbs.
Hours: Flexible
Length of Commitment: 6 month commitment encouraged
Children's Programs
Kids Cafe
Dinner Mentors
Volunteers have the opportunity to an easy but fulfilling
volunteer option on the way home from work. Volunteers would
provide important role modeling guidance for our students in Kids Cafe.
Volunteers would assist and direct table and dining room clean-up. Sign
up for Fall 2009 now!
Ages:
Juniors in High School through Senior Citizens
Hours: Monday-Friday at 5:25-6:30 P.M.
Length of Commitment:
One semester requirement, year commitment encouraged.
Preferred
Qualifications (special skills, interests or
experience): Sensitivity to diverse cultures, experience working with
children helpful, creative and patient with
children, responsive to direction and feedback from supervisors.

children. Learn about relevant issues and
develop new skills working with children, network with other staff,
volunteers, and interns working in this profession, making a difference in a child’s

Kids Connection (Kids Cafe and Reach for the Stars Program) Volunteer
Work in an extended school day program for children in
grades K-6. Volunteers and Interns are needed to teach and role model in
the classroom and in Kids Cafe. At the end of the day, the
volunteer/intern and staff sit down with the children and share in good
food and conversation.
Hours: Two shifts
are available 3:00-6:30pm or 4:00-7:30, Mondays through Fridays
Length of Commitment: A minimum commitment of 3.5 hours a
week for one school semester is required
Supportive Housing Program
Intake Coordinator Intern
Receive and
screen calls for potential clients,
communicate
with referring professionals,
process appropriate applicants for interview,
coordinate with director and case managers on matters pertaining to
interviews, attend weekly staff meeting,
maintain data regarding housing inquires, applications and admissions
for quarterly reports,expand
the program’s outreach and referral network
Ages: 18 years or older
Hours: 20 hours/wk

Length of Commitment: One year is encouraged
Preferred Qualifications: Enrolled in an undergraduate or higher program, completed human development
coursework, knowledge of working with family at risk, knowledge of Chemical Health,
awareness of judicial system strong organizational skills, detail orientated and self motivator,
adequate computer and interviewing skills, demonstrate ability to work in a team setting, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work
with professionals in the community.

Teen Mentoring Program
Volunteers have the opportunity to break the
ongoing negative cycles of homelessness teens. Some of these
cycles could be truancy, chemical abuse and hopelessness.
Volunteers would build strong ongoing relationships with these teens to
support and promote positive change in their lives. Though
consistency is required, this position can be flexible according to your
schedule.
Ages: 21 years or older
Hours: Opportunity is flexible
Benefits: Gain experience working with teens
Length of Commitment: One year is encouraged
Preferred Qualifications: Sensitivity to diverse cultures,
experienced working with teens, creative in meeting the teen where they
are responsive to direction and
feedback from supervisor. Teen mentors need to be chemically free and
a legal background check will be made as part of the application
process.
Adult Mentoring Program
Volunteers mentor one on one with a woman
in Perspectives' Supportive Housing Program. Although some understanding
and knowledge of chemical health issues, family dynamics, and parenting
are helpful, they are not required. If you possess sound judgment of
personal boundaries, good listening skills, good interpersonal skills,
and are assertive, then you are the person we are looking for.
Hours: Flexible hours
Length of Commitment: Year commitment preferred
AA Facilitators
Our 12 step AA program needs 2 volunteers to facilitate
for our AA groups. Must have 2 years of sobriety.
Hours: Every 2nd and 5th week on Fridays, 6:30
p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Parenting Time Program
Parent Coach
Volunteers/Interns are now being accepted to coach
non-residential parents. Volunteers/Interns also provide a safe and
comfortable environment where children can visit with their
non-residential parent. Good listening skills, sound judgment, and
assertiveness are necessary for this position.
Hours: 7 days a week; times vary according
to day.
Length of Commitment: A minimum of one year is
required

Childcare
Childcare in our Family Center
Our childcare is for children whose parents are involved in
Perspectives' Programs. The activities and experiences provided are
meant to foster skills such as socialization, independence, and
self-esteem. Volunteers are responsible to help plan and participate in
activities with children. Great opportunity for those who work until
early evening!
Hours: Monday-Friday 6:00-8:30 PM; some daytime opportunities may also exist
Length of Commitment: 6 month commitment encouraged
Summer Explorers
Summer Explorers
Volunteers/Interns
Volunteers and interns have the
opportunity to enjoy being outdoors while being a positive role-model to
children. Volunteers take part in activities such as reading with
children, playing and teaching sports, visiting nature centers, going to
the water park, and taking field trips to museums and other community
organizations.
Ages:
Juniors in High School through Senior Citizens
Hours: Two shifts available -
8:00 am-11:30 am
classroom or 11:30 am-3 pm
pool or park.
Monday-Friday
Length of Commitment: June 15-August 10, One
shift per week.
Preferred
Qualifications (special skills, interests or
experience): Sensitivity to diverse cultures, experience working with
children helpful, creative and patient with children, responsive to
direction and feedback from supervisors and need transportation.
